Please help! I have a Halstead combi 102 boiler that was in the house when we moved. I was told that it is only 3 years old. The boiler will work OK when the front panel is lowered and open. When I close it and replace the cover the heating and water will work for a while then the boiler will cut out, no over heat just cut out, pump stops etc. When I open the front cover again and re-set the boiler it's OK. Anyone got any ideas as the wife is nagging because it upsets the look of the kitchen!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a bad electrical connection, possibly a wire connection to a switch or PCB in the front panel.

thanks for the quick reply. i have checked all the connections to the pcb and they are all ok. Is there any chance that the heat inside the boiler housing is affecting the pcb?
Thanks

When you close the front panel, how soon afterwards does the boiler cut out?

And does the time vary? If so, is it the same if the boiler is not firing at the time (thermostat off) although the pump is still running?

The more detailed info. you can give, the better.

The boiler can sometimes run for a week without problem, sometimes for only an hour or so. It seems to be worse if we have run a bath, then neither the hot water or heating will work until we re-set. During the summer (with heating off but dial set to heating and water) the same thing was occurring, sometimes even with the panel open! I know this sounds daft but it's driving me mad as i think I have tried most things. Cheers for your help.

Sounds as though it might not have anything to do with front cover! Too many variables to guess any further. Have you checked the fault finding section of the manual?

Yep tried all of that, Spose I'll have to keep trying other things. Thanks for your time and efforts.

It has nothing in the manual about the boiler shutting down but says that if the DHW is either erratic or not working it is likely to have something to do with the DHW HE. I have removed this several times and de-scaled it and although it seems alittle better for a while it always returns to the same problem. The only thing I have not checked is the diverter diaphragm but I cannot see what difference the front cover would have on this.

Are you sure? There must be a reference to the need to reset the boiler, and what causes this?

The only time it mentions the re-set is in the event of a "lockout" but the boiler is not locking out as the indicator light is not on and sometimes when it is just left after a cut out for and hour or so it will start again normally
