Halstead Quattro Gold

There might have been a power cut-off of some sort while we were away on holiday for the past few days, and that messed up our boiler, which doesn't sound like a great surprise having read about the Halstead boilers in the forum. In fact, this is the second time in three months we had to get someone in to fix a problem, thanks to the previous houseowners who told us they 'never had a problem with the boiler'!

It's a Quattro Gold model with an electronic timeclock on it. Both the 'Burner On' and 'Overheat Lockout' lights were off when we looked at it. The timeclock wasn't on either, so we had the fuse changed (under the advice of our boiler man) and that sorted it. The power supply switch is pressed indicating 'On'. Having done all that, still, nothing happens when we try to turn the boiler on. There also seems to be a small leak from under the boiler.

We have rung our boiler man but he is away on holiday and his recommended friend can't be here till tomorrow afternoon to fix it. It is freezing cold and a day is a long time to wait and go without a hot shower. I was wondering if anyone have had experience of such incidents and if there is a quick fix...? Thanks.

Check to see if the pump has stuck. May threads here - remove centre screw, insert small flat screwdriver and you should be able to turn the shaft. If octagonal knob you unscrew, pull and twist.

I'm sure this model has a pump overrun stat fitted to the board that can stop the pump from coming on, if pump aint stuck that is.

what is the pressure gauge reading? Some boilers won't work at all if there is less than 0.7bar on the gauge.

The technician fixed it. Said the air valve was broken and the pipes were leaking inside..? He had to use a hair dryer to dry it up and replace the valve.

A week after that, he's here again because the boiler broke a second time. The same thing happen this time but he said it is at a different location. But he did mention that if the circuit board gets damaged, we will have to replace the whole boiler, which we are absolutely dreading.

The pressure is at about 1bar so it's alright there.

why do you need to replace the whole boiler if the pcb goes down? just get another pcb! That will cost £150 tops plus labour to fit it (maybe another £100) as opposed to £1000 - £1500 to change the boiler. The boiler only costs about £500 and the labour could account for the rest, ie 1 day to fit it.

Hmmm. How likely is that?
Try another boiler engineer.
