Hammer after changing taps

I changed the bath taps for a mixer type and stuck the old bath taps on the basin, as they suited the size of the basin better. However the hot tap if turned up creates a terrible hammering from the pipes. Cold is fine and flows much much better. I wondered if there's some carp in the tap. Are they dismantleable? Or do I need another tap.

Try a new washer in the tap, might just stop the water hammer.

+1 - sounds like it could also be a loose jumper - take it apart and see if the valve is loose inside
