I've used one of these on the back of my machine...

The connector needs to be padded out with a washer to stop it leaking (I believe it's designed for a slightly different American standard).
It worked well for a while, but then the hammer started to come back.
....the most effective reduction in hammer for me, came from semi-closing the isolator to the washing machine.

Properly clipped pipework and a PRV fitted if the incoming mains pressure is too high.
