I cant comment on vauxhall specific kits but the Parrot range make some good hands free kits with voice recognition.

A true hands free kit has to have voice recognition to answer a call. If you have to press a button to answer it is not hands free.

Don't forget that talking on a hands free can distract the driver far more than talking to a passenger in the car. The passenger knows when to accept a break in the converstion as they can see what the traffic situation is. The person at the other end of the phone connection has no idea when the driver has to pay full attention to the driving.

Not so, hands free refers to hoding the phone, not pressing a button on the hands free kit.

Most pasangers either go on and on to get their point across, or just natter incessantly without actually saying anything - okay, not all the time. It's actually the driver that's giving inordinate attention to the call because they can't ignore it, or control the conversation. If it's a business call, you listen intently, if it's a personal call, you just waffle - human nature.

There's a Pure 600 at £150 that looks good, and has a DAB radio as well.

We ( me and a retired police officer ) were talking about this on Sunday. The number of accidents caused by the driver paying more attention to the hands free conversation than to the road suggests that talking on hands free is almost as dangerous as using a hand held phone.

Hence there are moves to try and make it illegal to use of any telephone while in charge of a vehicle. The present law requires accident investigators to prove there was distraction if there is an accident caused by a driver who was in a conversation on a hands free kit.

Hands-free
If you use your phone hands-free, you must stay in full control of your vehicle at all times.

The police can stop you if they think you’re not in control because you’re distracted and you can be prosecuted.

1980 something. Car on hard shoulder of M4 , police patrol ask driver why he has stopped and made no effort to use the emergency phone to call for asistance, His reason was that he felt it was unsafe to drive while his passenger was giving him verbal grief.

My point still stands, if you need to move your hand to press a button to answer a call it is not hands free. I never said by law it has to be like this but the term hands free means no hands. If you have used a hand to answer the call then yes the call maybe hands free but the setup is not.
