I live in a pre 1780 cottage with solid brick walls. There is a 2'x2' window in a gable end wall (I hope that is the right expression). See the images both outside and inside. The last one shows the ceiling.
I want to replace the wooden window with a uPVC one. As the wooden frame is so robust, I am wondering if it is taking the place of a lintel. You can see from the outside image that the lower window is curved at the top perhaps denoting an ark lintel above it.
The outside wall is pebble dash and inside rough plaster (but in keeping with its age).
