Hello - we've recently opened up our chimney and had a hearth laid for a woodburning stove. We've had the brickwork in the alcove rendered with heat-resistant plaster. We now want to paint this plaster to a similar colour to the other walls but we've been told we need heat-resistant/proof paint.

We've looked in the shops and online but cannot find anywhere that supplies this type of paint. There seems to be loads of heat resistant paints for metalic surfaces that leave metalic finishes but none for normal finishes.

Can someone point me towards a shop (online or not) that supplies this type of paint or suggest alternatives that they've used themselves?

cheers :)

I would have thought that water based emulsion paint would be fine as its non combustable. I have used emulsion before around such areas. Most of the heat from a woodburner comes forward. I have fitted several over the years and never had a problem. All finishes in that area will tarnish or discolour over time anyway.

Great - so there won't be a problem with peeling or flaking like I've read other people have had?
