Hi, during the winter times we are finding that we are running out of space near radiators to dry our clothes on airers. I have thought of buying a heated airer to speed the drying up but we don’t have much space. So I was thinking, we have a larger cupboard in our utility room and I was wondering if I could build some rails to hang the clothes and fit an electric heater. Any thoughts on whether this is possible?
I would probably want to close the door of the cupboard so keep as much heat in as possible so would I need some ventilation?
Advise on heaters would be appreciated .
Thanks in advanced

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Would I be able to put the dehumidifier in the cupboard?

You will need a some air circulation to prevent the dehumidifier overheating but far safer than a heater. I use one in my kitchen and a full load of washing dries in about 5 - 6 hours. They are not expensive to run.

Dont put a dehumidifier in a cupboard. It needs good airflow to be safe and efficient.

Drying clothes, on or near a rad, is a tremendously bad idea, Trying to dry in an enclosed space, an even worse idea. If you must dry indoors, then a small room, with a dehumidifier running in it, and a small fan, works well.

In our old house, we used to have a cupboard at the top of the stairs with slatted shelves. More of an airing cupboard than a drier though The door had vents in it, top and bottom to aid air flow. Worked fine. The heater was a tube heater fitted on the floor. Do a search for 'tube heaters' but you can’t beat a heated rail for indoor drying.
