Hi All

Please can anyone confirm what can cause a tv suppressor to pop, having called an engineer in yesterday, he stated the probable cause of it blowing was the central heating pump, as there was no power to it and as it was an older grundfos model 25 years plus.
The wiring schematics for the Thorn Apollo 15/30b show the suppressor wired as follows..

black to 3 way switch
yellow to earth stud
black to neutral on boiler terminal block (shared with pump neutral)

Power from mains to terminal block
No power to pump, tv suppressor and 3 way switch
New motorised valve which works as it should. new cylinder stat, new room stat

I took the pump off and put a lead to it and it spins fine, but I will replace anyway because of the age.

Can a faulty tv suppressor stop a pump operating via the boiler terminal block.

sounds like no switch live to boiler, supressor is only to stop interfearance when stat makes ,it can be removed

no it cant stop pump working , pump power comes through pump over run stat

I can only assume that was a telephone phone call :!: any gassafe boiler repair technician would have sussed out the problem in a moment, your boiler is very basic it doesn't even have a pcb. Just follow the wiring diagram.

The boiler is repairable but the parts that need attention are inside the combustion compartment, and not diy work.

Remember your boiler is at least 25 years old and requires correct servicing & repairs to maintain safety,so best call in your periodic gas service operative.

Hi
Thank you for your kind responses and comments, I have had two visits (no phone calls) from gas safe heating engineers, I explained the issue firstly being the tv suppressor popping, (from its casing), and as already discussed this boiler has no pcb, no fan and should be an easier than normal fix compared to modern boilers.

No switch live to boiler was mentioned by the first company but the engineer obviously did not sus this after 2 hours, I complained, and was given a full refund.

Gordongas you clearly did within seconds of reading my post !!! Is this an easy fix?

Althogh the boiler is 25 years old I do get it regularly serviced and it has been very reliable up to now it must be noted though for the last 17 years plus I work away from home so the boiler has been rarely on,

Do I just replace it in the summer or keep it going with yearly services??

Thanks once again for your kindness,

Regards
