Hi, I am in the process of changing my kitchen around and have removed two radiators which are no longer needed. Prior to removing the radiators I drained the system as I wanted to cut the pipes shorter and hide them out of the way. I put stop ends on the end of the cut pipes and refilled the system. I filled and bled the radiators and tried to bleed the pump but no air came out. I have since turned on the heating system but the boiler is not firing up and I don't know what to do next.

The heating system is "open" type, the pump is running but getting hot so I turned it off.

Do I need to join the cut pipes together to ensure the water flows through the system?

Should I force cold water into the system to try to remove a blockage?, if so what would be the best point to start? is it better to repeat at several places?

Thanks Nick

Have you checked that there is water in the header tank?

If so then have you reversed whatever you did when you drained the system ???

The boiler is an "Ideal", and the pilot light is on.

I have checked the F/E tank and there is water in it.

I can't reverse what I did when I drained the system as I have now cut the pipes and put stop end on them. But other than that I filled the syetem, then bled the radiators and pump and then turned on the controller.

Look for a reset button on the boiler. Hundreds of Ideals...
Possiblilty is Lack of water >> Overheat cutout.

Thanks Chris,

I have checked the water levels, there is water in the tank but none in the pipes. The 15mm pipe coming down from the tank connects to a 22mm pipe which goes into the pump. I haven't taken off the pump yet but will try this tonight if you think it is a good idea. There is no water in any of the pipes.

Thanks Nick
