my hot water works fine when there is demand the zone valve opens and the pump kicks in but the heating does not work the pump does not start and the heating zone valve does not open any ideas

probaly a faulty motor in the zone valve.
or failing that a faulty room stat or programmer.
have you a multi meter ?

i have not got a multi meter i could get hold of one though if the zone valve is faulty should the pump still come on anyway when calling for heat

if the zone valve is not opening the the pump or boiler won't fire up.
