Hi,

Just taken on a new industrial unit which is 3000 sqft / 300 sq'm . It is fully insulated but no heating. The ceiling height is approx 8 meters in the middle but double pitched so only around 4 meters high when it gets to the edges (hope that makes sence)

So the issue. there is no gas supply !

What sort of heating system would you recommend? What sort of costs would be involved?

Im thinking of putting a false ceiling in at say 3m so im not heating the roof area. Also the unit can be split in two halfs and some times i will only need to heat the one side (1500sqft / 150 sq'm )

Suggestions please.

Depends on the use.

If offices then oil boiler with radiators.

For larger open spaces lpg hot air blowers for fast heating of large area.

Insurance wont allow gas cylinders on site. They had me on this in the last place and we had a overhead gas heater fitted. But like i say we have no gas here.

Raidators and oil burner might be a idea.

Anyone know how close the oil container needs to be for delivery? do teh delivery wagons have long pipes? Im unsure if we can get a tank close enough?

just looking at oil boilers.

Can any one work out what BPU size i would need if possible ?

Also can you install a valve like a thermo valve on rads to do a whole section of rads may? For instance, if the unit was split in two halfs how can i adjust the heat on one side to the other when i will have say 8 rads either section?

If i was to not have a false ceiling obviously all the heat will rise. Can i fit ceiling fans to blow the heat down? will that work?

Using the whole house calculator that might not be too applicable it comes in with approx 50kw needed. You can zone both sides and therefore switch them on and off and control them separately on wall thermostats / controllers.

thanks

I think im going to look at a oil fired warm air blower. The big industrial ones.

Not cheap tho, looks like about £2500 for the heater and then tank + fitting on top :( I wouldn't mind spending if it was my house but a lot of money for something that will be use 2 days a week max!

What are you using it for mate? Warehouse & offices?

Its a training center. So large open space with training bays that flooring fitters / apprentices will be getting trained in.

There is a training room and place for them to eat but im happy to heat them with electric rads as only in there for 1 hour a day.

We also have a store area that will need heating to stop things freezing etc .

Oh FFS!! You're not training course cowboys/six week chancers are you??!!...................

If you will be using adhesives with solvents you better make sure that you fit a 'room sealed' type heater.

Have a look at Worcester air to air heat pump. I believe one unit would do 150sqm so you would need a couple. Sleek unit ideal for your situation and 500% efficient as well. I think around 2300 fitted Inc vat.

We've done a fair few of these and you won't get two fitted for £2500. They need to be connected by an Fgas fitter too.

More like £4K.....

NB: 500% on warm days. Less on cold days.

new to trade its 18 months in total  They come to us on week blocks and then go out in the real world for a month with a installer and this keeps repeating. We basically are there to make sure they are doing things correct with there employer.

Then there are courses for people who are already in the trade, bit like the ones you lot have to go on to keep up to date. ;)

no solvents allowed, all water based products.

However we do have saw dust (very minimal as dust extracted) . When we had the gas heater fitted in the place we are in at moment they fitted a pipe to take clean air from outside. I would presume i will have to have the same again.

Sounds to expensive to be honest mate.

Maybe there is a saving over the years but as we wont be using every day i dont think we would make a saving would we?
