My central heating has the old DANFOSS mechanical timer which now has an fault. The unit refuses to keep good time and is losing about two hours daily. Perhaps its now the time to replace this unit with an modern digital unit.
My question is would this job be within my scope of DIY or is it definately an pro' job. I am asumming that the new unit will offer diagramatic sketch showing wire connection locations. Your thoughts and suggestions gratefully recieved.

If you can read a wiring diagram and are confident doing electrical work, then there shouldn't be any problem for a DIY job. In any case, you can always post you problems on here and get your hand held. ;)

If your wall thermostat is as old as your timer, it might be worth considering a programmable thermostat - this does both jobs, timer and thermostat. The Honeywell CM901/907 (wired) and CM921/927 (wireless) are very good. But, if you have a heat only boiler - i.e not a combi - you will need a separate timer for the hot water as the CM900 series only control the central heating.
