We’ve had a quote to remove some dead ferns and replace with 9-10 4 foot Portuguese laurels. The quote includes removal, new soil and fertiliser.

We’ve been quoted £800. Is that expensive?

Laural at about £15 to £20 so £200 at worst.

Sounds like a two man job for a day or one man for nearly 2 days. AKA £250 per day each.

So at about cost at £ 700 with a little bit of wiggle room. Best to get a few more quotes to be sure but equally define the Laural size (pot not just hight)

I assume here that the fern removal and ground prep is not insignificant.

I did something similar in half a day at my place recently.
Used a thick rope and my car to remove existing hedge.
Piece of cake.
If I had to charge a stranger it would be £250 labour+ green disposal+ new plants=£500 approx.

No they are big and wrapped in holly and the front hedge is needing some work to allow the new laurels to for better

It does seem a tad on the expensive side to me, but I’m struggling to even get a gardener to turn up.

And for some reason people assume if you live where we do, then you’re loaded “we aren’t” it’s just an old terrace house
