Hi

I have a 1930's semi which I am renovating, I've removed the picture rails, re plastering and replacing them, also including wall lights.
Which one is higher (or lower)?

I've searched and read
Picture rail 300 - 500 cm from ceiling or level with tops of door frames.
Wall lights 152 cm.

But what is the norm, picture rail higher or lower than wall light?

It depends on how high you have the picture rail, whether you are to actually hang pictures from it, and whether or not you have picture lights ;)

If it is just a high level, decorative, rail then I would have the light definitely below it. Wall lights look gash too high up !

btw I take i you mean mm !

I didn't notice that.

No wonder there was a doubt.

If you'r thinking 152cm. is very precise, it's 5 feet.

doorframe top and picture rail 2m ceiling height 2.4
wall lights 1.5-1.8m

now you would have the wall light nearer 1.8 to look right imho
but all depends on the set up off the room

I didn't say that - I was talking about the OP's picture rail.

At 300mm I'd either not have uplighters or I'd lose the picture rail.

I have wall lights which are an opaque glass quarter-sphere, open at the top, so a considerable amount of light shines upwards. The top is 250mm from the ceiling, and the bottom 390. If I had a picture rail at the height of my door frames it would be at 420mm, so the lights would be above it.
