I've just come across this site, wish i'd found it sooner, anyway better late than never. Well i'm wondering wether to replace my gas cooker with an electric one, because fitting would be easier and cheeper. Does anyone know if this would be straight forward, as obviousley it is currently a gas appliance...your thoughts would be appreciated as can be a bit blonde about such matters..thanks loads

while i'm at it, there is not much gas coming out of my hob, which is a bit of a worry

dont bother.

gas more precise, easier to clean cost less, works in powercut

Electric oven yes, Electric hob no, they're rubbish! As a DIY'er you cannot / shouldn't (I leave that argument to those who have the time to argue) mess around with gas supplies. Just MHO.

Oh, BTW, welcome to the forum. :D

gas is loads better for a hob, and as you have a gass supply there it should be easy whoever is competent with gas to do a swap.

electic hobs use loads of electric and need there own supply, even if there is a supply there (from a previous oven/cooker or hob) it may not be up to scratch. and electrical work in the kitchen now should be notified to building control (with a fee) or a registered spark used (there not all registered, qualified and registered are different). and i always though elect was more expensive to run.

stick with gas.

as for

time to call a corgi? but do report back what they say.

Cheers for the advice, just what i needed, I will get new gas cooker and get the queens dog to fit it xx

Have a look at Dual Fuel cookers (the choice of good cooks everywhere ;) )

These have a gas hob (best) and an electric fan oven (best).
