Help ! Corroded heat exchanger, boiler condemned

That looks like it's got a bit hotter in there than it should have done, going by the pictures. As said, better to replace that boiler with something a bit less fragile.
Boilers in lofts, don't you just love em?
 
It also looks like water has been getting in from the flue!

But they are so bad hardly worth bothering with one like that!

Although if it was my own area I could probably find a used one and fit it for about £200 but only IF there were no other issues and water getting into the flue could be a serious one.

Seems the HE has been getting hot and perhaps due to lime scaling in the main HE ?

We have very hard water in Rotherham. The boiler has been serviced annually but we did have a problem with leaks which were fixed under warranty. The system currently does not contain any inhibitors as it was refilled after a leaky radiator valve was fixed about 18 months ago.
 
You need a good inhibitor in the heating system and a lime beater on the mains side when the new boiler is installed.
 
That is soot and was caused through lack of servicing an lack of oxygen.
A good clean could get it up and running again.
Don't listen to numpties who know nothing about boilers or pretend they do.

The ferroli domicompact. ..peace of ****. Your condess on right hand side of secondary heat exchanger is also leaking. And a nightmare to fix
