HELP! Hotpoint Ultima Extra WD72

Hi, All:

Our washer dryer, a Hotpoint Ultima Extra (WD72) has this weekend started to make an 'expensive' sound during the spin cycle.

At first I thought maybe a belt (?) had fallen off because it sounds as though something is grating or the motor is turning, but the drum isn't... but then I realised on the normal wash cycle, the machine was working OK. Subsequently, I realised that the noise is pretty much a grating or grinding metallic-sounding noise.

Any ideas from anyone most appreciated. Do you think I'll be looking at a big repair bill? I'll be a little p***ed off if I am - it's less than 3 years old...

I think maybe it's the brushes because I can't lift the stainless drum... are the brushes easy/cheap to change - or should I get a man in?!
