1black wire,
1 earth
2 reds
1 black with red sleeve.

The light I'm trying to fix has 3 browns - 3 blues and an earth.

Every time i try to wire the light either it blows or the light remains on and doesnt turn off from switch.
an anyone help? please.

black wire - 3 blues
earth - earth
2 reds - in a separate connector block
black with red sleeve - 3 browns

the black with the red sleeving on needs to go to L on the fitting , the black to N and the 2 reds together in a bit of connector block

I take you new light has three lamps.

You need to get a 15 Amp terminal strip like this.
http://www.screwfix.com/p/terminal-strips-15a-pack-of-10/51536
You should be able to pick up a single strip from B&Q.
You need to cut a four terminal block.
In the first terminal place the the black with the red sleeve.
in the second terminal place the two reds
in the third terminal place the black wire.
in the fourth terminal the sleeved earth - you should have two.

Then get a small piece of Twin and Earth cable 1mm2 and connect the brown cable to the other side of the first terminal (black with red sleeve)
connect the blue to the other side of the third terminal (black wire)
sleeve the earth and connect it to the fourth teminal (earth)

The other end of the T&E at the lamp connect the brown to brown, blue to blue and earth to earth.
Having seen the other solutions use this one if there is not enough space in the light terminal strip.

Ive done IT.
Black sleeve to the brown
two reds to the live feed
black to the blue
Yipppeeeeeee

well done you!

What about the earth

Are you + that you don't need an earth connection to the fitting?

If it has an earth terminal or does not have a double insulated symbol, it will need the earth conductors from the ceiling connecting to it.

The 2 reds shouldnt connect to the lamp terminals **edit** unless the lamp fitting provides a terminal to connect the permanent lives to as did the old ceiling rose**.....the black wire with red sleeve is the switched live from the switch and will connect to the brown/live on the new lamp

The earth wire will need to be connected if the lamp fitting has an earth terminal, which in one of your posts you say it has.
