I am developing a flat (g/floor entrace, 1st floor & loft) and, having finished 1st fix & plastered, I have now decided I am unhappy with my hallway lighting setup:

G: Sw (1G 2W) & Lamp
Half Landing: Sw (1G Int) & Lamp
1: Sw (1G Int) & Lamp
2: Sw (1G 2W) & Lamp [+power]

The problem is that as all the lights are linked. So any switch opperates ALL lights.

Thus if you require any light on all lights are on - including the g/floor (entrance) light.

Is there a simple solution of seperating the above without serious channelling, cabling & redecorating?

I am most concerned about separating out the g/floor (entrance) light - which would ideally be on its own 2W linked to the half landing - or G/f & half landing.

I know my timing is lousy but any help would be really apreciated.

Many thanks,

I don't think there will be a simple way of changing it without channelling.

My thoughts...

Change:
1/ Half Landing: Sw (1G Int) & Lamp To: Half Landing: Sw (2G 2W) & Lamp
2/ Take up floorboards to get power to Half Landing Lamp.

Which would change the system to:

G: Sw (1G 2W) & Lamp
Half Landing: Sw (2G 2W) & Lamp [+power]

plus:
Half Landing: Sw (2G 2W)
1: Sw (1G Int) & Lamp
2: Sw (1G 2W) & Lamp [+power]

I think (???) this would work.

It would separate the "G/F & Half Landing" from the "1st floor and 2nd floor".

Criticism please.

It all depends on how you have run in the wires, have you run 3c+e from the bottom 2way through both intermediates to the top 2way? If so it may be possible to split the switch wires into two circuits. Your only problem there is converting the bottom half to its own switch circuit, remembering any terminations should be accessable. If it is not practical to run the 3c+e to the bottom/half landing ceiling rose it is preferable to run a 2c+e switch wire to the back of the light switch as in the for reference section.
