HELP Mounted Plasma TV - How do I hide these horrible wires?

HELP WANTED:

I've mounted a 37" television just above my fireplace. Firstly, let me say that I've checked for rising heat etc... and the TV is not at risk.

The TV looks great where it is and the dynamic of the room has totally changed because of it. What is really annoying though is the mass of wires hanging from below the TV that lead to the various devices in the alcove at the side.

I've considered some 2"x 3" trunking and channeling an area for it to sit within the wall, allowing me to feed wires up and down to the TV without being seen. The trunking would then be covered and the wall plastered over.

Having removed the top layer of plaster before, I know that there is about an inch of it before brick is exposed. I don't really want to start chiseling out parts of the brickwork though. What if I make the fireplace unstable? Will scart leads be flexible enough to easily manoeuver round a corner within the trunking?

Has anyone any ideas with regards to hiding wires? Anyone done any wire hiding jobs before and what tips can they give me?

If you want a professional job, install a couple of blanking plates on the chimney breast, with scart outlets in them, and / or phono sockets. Then solder the appropriate wires to the back of these and run them down to phono and scart outlets where your AV equipment is. Maplin sell this sort of stuff, and it should be easy if your any good with a soldering iron. The maplin catalogue has diagrams of how to wire them up. For power, install a single electric socket behind the TV.

Behind the TV, bundle up the slack cables with wire ties.

What is a blanking plate. I have just fitted my Plasma above my fireplace and am concerned I have done something wrong. Also dose anyone have any pictures as an example?
