Any opinions/experience/advice would be greatly appreciated...

We are having a kitchen extension with underfloor heating and our boiler has died under the new pressure from the new system. It was a Worcester 24cxi, is about 10 years old and has worked wonderfully.

I am looking to get a new boiler. The british gas man said that he thought 28 kw would be sufficient (even with the planned loft conversion...it is currently 3 bedroom). But I was thinking perhaps to go to 31/32 kw, just to be sure.

So, based on that , I was thinking perhaps a vaillant ecotec plus 831 (based on the name and the Which recommendation). But the british gas guy suggested a greenstar 532, which I thought was a worcester bosch. But I looked for reviews on that but I can't seem to find anything and the BG site seems to suggest it may be a BG boiler. I don't know if I should be thinking about anything else.

Please, any advice/suggestions would be hugely appreciated!!

Without seeing your house and set up its impossible to advise you apart from getting a couple of local quotes

The Greenstar is a worcester bosch, I would go for the Vaillant much better boiler, BG hold hands with WB so thats always their recommendation, you will get alot of advise on this i suspect, all installers have their own preferences, It'll be your choice because i suspect you'll get pulled from pillar to post on this thread, but as already suggested get a couple of quotes from local RGI's from the Gassafe website or recommendation

Thank you for your reply! I realise that you can't offer advice on the size without seeing the house (I have discovered how many different things go into the size of boiler you need!), but I was hoping someone might have opinions on the boiler make...?

Thank you! My post just after yours was in response to the previous poster - I'd not worked out quoting at that stage and so it looked like I was responding to you.

Your advice is really helpful. The plumber doing our extension was going to fit it, and but I don't know what his installation preferences are. I was also wondering if I should go with a specialised heating fitter. I was feeling guility about getting quotes if I wasn't going to get them to fit it.

Never ask for a quote with a visit if you are not going to give them a chance to fit your boiler.

I give a budgetary quote on the phone but dont visit unless my budgetary quote has been accepted. Thats just a waste of time and petrol for five people as only one will even get the job.

In my opinion the latest Vaillant ecoTEC is a better combi than the Worcester.

Go with a volume Vaillant installer and you'll get a 5yr warranty, volume Worcester installers have a 6yr warranty at the moment. Your plumber will probably get two/three years at the most.

or if your are worried about price go for a main eco their prity decent boiler for the price

So you should.
In answer to your original question: if you need to come on here to ask that, you clearly need to find an installer you do trust.

That is a great idea. I've got a few names I will call tomorrow.

If you look at previous topics you'll find this one has been covered many many times before, and you'll get a variety of different answers according to installer preferences. I personally would spec an Intergas Combi Compact HRE 36/30 based on what you've said so far.
