Help...Phone wiring problem

Had a fault the other day. BT looked and said the fault was inside. He reckoned the internal wiring was causing a 'loop' and a mouse may have chewed it. He also replaced the master socket with a NTE5C.

I have run cat5 from the master to the extension in the front room. The master has 3 connections from the blue cam lock - Orange to 5, Green to 3 and Blue to 2. I have connected the same coloured wires to the same numbered terminals on a new extension socket but the line is not working on the extension.

I have a dial tone at the master socket, but I do not when I put the face plate back on. It cannot be the cable as thats new and the extension socket is new.

Any ideas where the fault may lie??

Orange to 5, Green to 3 and Blue to 2.

What type of cable is this ?

Is it flat cable with multi-stranded cores. ( each wire has several strands )

What type of connectors in the sockets ?

Are they punch down ( IDC ) or screw terninals ?

Stranded wire does not make good , if any, connection when punched down into IDC connectors.

If you have not used solid core cable ( CW1308 ) in ICD connectors then it is quite possible there is no connection and hence no dial tone.

5 should be white/blue , 2 should be blue/white and 3 should be orange/white , either the cable is faulty or your socket is faulty or what you have plugged into the extension socket is faulty . Take the extension socket of the end of the cable and plug the frontplate back onto the master and then check for dial tone at the master socket if all is ok then reconnect the extension socket and test again , A multimeter would save time

BT Openreach have reverted to the old wiring colours( blue,orange,green,brown) for a few years now. The new 5c linebox is notorious for not making a connection on the push down clamp which connects wiring to extension and dial tone is not present on the extension until front plate is refitted
