We have a chimneystack that needed sorting out. We got in contact with a maintenance company, and two guys showed up, and one of them climbed onto the roof and said it was no good and needed to be removed, as the bricks were being held together by dust, and the render job wasn’t great. It made sense to have it removed.
One week later, two different guys showed up, one to do some work at the front (I’ll get to that later) and one to remove the chimneystack. The original agreement included putting up a scaffold tower, as the bricks on the roof could topple. As it turns out, they did not use a tower for this job. The guy used a ladder, and dropped the bricks to the ground below from the 1sr floor. As there was an Ariel in place the roofer decided to only remove two rows of brinks, and add some render. Once they had left, it turns out, 4 paving slabs and a stone birdbath had been broken (from the falling bricks). Our broom had been broken (they obviously didn’t have their own broom) and worst of all, the rendering didn’t look all that. Here are some photo’s before and after. How much should this have cost? What they’ve done, has it really achieved much?

The other roofer, who was using a scaffold tower, was sorting out two gullies, removing moss and re cementing. Once he had left, I could spot 2 broken tiles. My guess is, water will get in. Here are some photo’s. How much should this have cost? What they’ve done, do you think the two broken/chipped tiles need replacing.

One final question. Is it up to the roofer to clear the crap (moss, tile dust) from the gutter?
Thanks for any feedback.
