Hi folks.

Just looking for some advice. Or floors squeek unbelievably and on some exploratory work it appears we have no joists - just concrete flooring, then 3 inch of insulation then the floorboards.

is this legal? And is there any way to fix the squeaks?

Thanks in advance

so what type of floor do you have? Wood-engineered, solid floorboards?

Don't understand your remark about being legal? Plenty of modern floorboards installed over a concrete underfloor are installed without battens or joist.

Have you checked - by removing the skirting boards - if there is still plenty of expansion gap all around your wooden floor?

Is there a membrane between the flooring and the insulation, sometimes the two can rub together, a polythene sheet can act as a slip membrane (or a proprietary floor membrane).

Does the squeaking happen in any particular area, sometimes the concrete is not level, and the edges of insulation panels rub together.

Are the floorboards glued together or do they use a clip system?
