...and down the ceramic tile pooling on the tile hearth in front of the firebox. My house was built in 1991 here in Dublin, OH, and we thought we had this problem solved with the sealing of the bricks, addition of a lock-top damper, sealing the mortar on the chimney top, and sealing around the chimney with silicone. Unfortunately, our nightmare continues.

During heavy or extended rain, water will actually run down the front of our ceramic tile from under the mantle. It pools up at the bottom, just outside the firebox. We actually get some water inside the chimney, too, which is why we added the lock-top damper. The damper inside the firebox was rusted open.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do next?

Thanks a ton...

What are you like on ladder work? it could be the chimney hasn't been sealed of at roof level, or the top has not been closed in around the pots if they're similar construction to ours in UK.

Friends had tarmac put down in their front yard to park their car on and off they went to the bank to get the money for them. Came back the workers crowded them until they got their money gave an apology of a receipt which was un readable. disappeared like leprechauns.

Friends parked their car on the brand new drive and in the morning it had sunk 3 inches into the dirt. The tarmac was only 1/2 inch thick. In places the following year daffodils grew through it , they had to get a builder to rip it up and relay new properly.

Did Irish travellers build your house to? :D

I dont think Irish are seen in the same light in the US.........D`oh. In this country we "should" put a lead tray through the chimney horizontally to stop the water going down
