Hello to the members of Electrics UK.

Wondering if anyone can help out with a question?

I am doing a job onsite and the specification on my distribution board for the lighting circuit is a 16Amp RCBO to BS EN 61009-1 (C type).

The circuit is only running a 5 x 50 Watt lamps. The max has got to be 100W each fitting. Ib = 2.08Amps Max and a Ib 1.04 Amps (normal load).

Am I wrong in saying this is OTT and a 6 amp would service? or is there a hidden factor I am not including into my cable calculation? Will the device still trip or is it over rated?

Look forward to this one as I think the designer could be wrong?

See what you all think. Include regulation numbers if you can.

Thanks in advance to all posts.

In the absence of any other specific data, lighting circuits are generally designed to be protected by a device no bigger than 10A.
Have you checked that 16A is not a typo ?
