Help with choosing TRVs

I'm slowly but surely replacing all the radiators with convectors and new valves.

The new radiator I've fitted in our bedroom doesn't have a TRV fitted at present as personally I'm not a fan of them. However, I've noticed that since fitting the new radiator it could do with being a tad cooler at night. So I'm making the jump as once we change the boiler over (old baxi solo) it's only going to be warmer and more efficient.

I've got pegler terrier wheel valve and locksheilds but can't decide which TRVs to use.

I'm stuck between Danfoss RAS c2, Danfoss RAS D2, Honeywell VTL200. I'm I'm also considering Pegler Terrier 3 too but not sold on the Drayton TRV4.

Can anyone that fits these day in, day out offer their wisdom what they would fit please?

Loads of reviews about the Danfoss but very little about the Honeywell's.

Any of those you mention are decent enough. Don't over think it though, they are pretty much like for like.

If you're doing the whole house then go for IMI Eclipse. Best TRVs out there IMHO - very very precise temperature control, and very simple system balancing too using the dial under the TRV head.

I fitted 8x Danfoss RAS c2 in my own house about two years ago & have had no issues with them. I like the selectable collar for flow direction which apparently eliminates water hammer, they look smart with their satin silver finish, the lock shield is very neat design with the screw-on metal cap over the valve so are less likely to be accidentally messed with in the future, the temperature control seems accurate etc. They were inexpensive too at about £18 each for an angled 15mm lockshield and TRV kit.

Any of those you mention are decent enough. Don't over think it though, they are pretty much like for like.

Easier said than done for me. I'm quite fussy when it comes to that. I don't mind paying more for a product that will last that bit longer and is well thought out. Cheapest has never been my thing, although I like a deal!

There is even less in terms of research/reviews on these TRVs! I have heard of IMI (as it's a part of Norgren that manufacture compressed air fittings etc) but didn't know they had this string to their bow. My worry with these are they aren't as readily available although I plan on keeping a few for spares

The days of more expensive meaning better quality are long since gone...you're just paying for an inefficient business and huge marketing budgets.

Would i be right to assume your in the trade yourself?
Thing is, I'm in engineer but we all have our preferred bits of kit that we plug. Some sales driven but for me just because if we are maintaining the kit, we want the least amount of hassle from it serviceable and to replace if needed.

They're very readily available - the company is based in Dunstable, and I've bought hundreds off them (I have a direct account). They always get them to me next day. They've been there for quite a while now, only recently moved into the domestic side of things but have been big players in the commercial world for years. I used to fit the Danfoss RasC2, switched to these, and wouldn't go back now. Temperature control is better, system balancing is unparalleled, and if they ever do stop working you just need to buy a replacement insert rather than the whole valve - with the servicing tool, the working part of the valve can be changed without draining down the system, or even turning it off.

Just got myself a full load of these for my own place to replace the TRV4's, looking forward to seeing how it all runs with the balancing control.

Got to admit, I've watched the YouTube vid of setting the trv to the radiator output which for a competent person but a non plumber looked relatively easy.

It's dead simple. Download the app, put the radiator size, flow temp, return temp, and room temp into the app, and it'll tell you the required flow rate, which you then convert to a setting on the TRV using the supplied chart

Abit confused with the app but it's not the end of everything just yet. The vids make sense.

Can I ask where do you purchase yours from please? I've contacted IMI themselves which said they didnt sell direct. They gave me SBS as there partner but I can only find 1 other supplier in plumb arena.

The inserts work out nearly as expensive as the whole valve (albeit for an extra 3 quid quid per valve)

I buy direct from IMI, because I have a trade account with them, but you're right that they don't sell to the public. The Intergas Shop sells them though, and Richard (the owner) might be prepared to get some TRV-only packs in for you if you don't want to buy the TRV and lockshield together. Other than that, I daresay I could supply them to you myself (payment in advance of course...)

Ah makes sense. Never thought to ask if they would do just the TRVs. (I've already bought Pegler wheel valves and locksheilds which some will get used in the bathroom and where the stat will live, the rest I'll resell on eBay)
