perhaps a simple question. But I cannot figure out how remove the wires form this to install a new ceiling light? I’m used to the simple screw the wires out till loose. But these 3 have clips? And I can’t find a screw to loosen them. Any help much appreciated

There’s a hole next to it and a little hole underneath maybe that’s the release?

I would need to try to know for certain, first came across the maintenance free connector in 1980 in Algeria, although likely they were Dutch as working for a Dutch company, there was no release, and they were a pain as wires got shorter and shorter, but since that time I have seen versions with release holes and leavers. I think yours is type you press the leaver down, but can't be sure.

I was hoping to avoid cutting them off. Will try and push the clips down again.

Push one clip lever down and release each pair of wires at a time. It’s very simple really.
If you can’t cope with that then (as above) either just cut the wires, or get an electrician.

I thought with those terminals you just pushed down on the "levers" marked L N and earth and the cable with the white outer sleeve should just pull out They can be stiff to push down though
