I am 23 and female so need some help and advice on my garden project!!

The whole garden (previously chippings) has been ripped out and is being replaced by new chippings and some grass. The garden is not level so we have bought some hard-core to level the area where the chippings are going and top soil to level off where the grass is going.

I want to put a border of block paving bricks around the grass - how should these be laid? Should they be concreted down or just put on sand?

I am also putting down a paving circle and have the same question - should this be concreted down or just put on sand?

Many thanks for any help :)

that site is very reliable, so likely sand would be sufficient. i seem to remember that somewhere on that site it says you could use sharp sand and cement in a 10:1 ratio, but still just use the mixture dry.

The edging blocks need to be layed and haunched with concrete, about 3-4 inches deep and haunched about halfway up the back.

We would need to know what the circle is before advising, some can be layed on compacted screeded sand such as block paving circles but larger flags or natural stone of any kind should be layed on full mortar bed about 5:1.

Check out paving expert for any of the terms i used which you are unsure of and come back with any specific questions.
