Some cheaper makes of pipe require plastic inserts which are greater external diameter than the SS hep insterts, to use hep inserts incorrectly results in leaks at joints.
Plastic is fine if you know how to use it, don't mix and match (though many are cross compatible, not all) and observe MI's.
