How do I find out weather there is some pipework buried in a brick wall as I have a leak and I dont know weather it is external or internal

You can try a pipe detector but they aren't that reliable. If you have pipes in a wall then there will be (usually) a cut floorboard where they needed access for installation or (if it's upstairs) get in the loft and see where pipes come out. It's pretty unusual to have a pipe run that is that well hidden you can't see it from top or bottom.
