Hi All,

I have moved into an old property with an open inset gas fire into chimney.
6.5kW input and hardly any heat gets into the room. When it is not in use, the chimney sucks the life and heat from the house.
I have been pondering over getting it replaced with either a high efficiency fas fire (glass fronted) etc. or electric.
Any recommendations ?
Will a glass fronted gas fire reduce draughts when the fire is NOT in use.
Will I notice a difference if I invest in one of these fires ?
I have been looking at a Flavel Windsor HE Inset Fire.
Supposed to be 89% efficient, but it's all new to me.

If I went electric would I have to close the chimney at both ends ?

Okay as a fire, but a very shallow firebed. The "free" extended Warranty depends on an annual service (fair enough) and a replacement ODS every year (ridiculous and a rip off)

No. block of flue at bottom, but allow a trickle of air to prevent condensation
