Hi

The road has a street drain that gets blocked by leaves and stuff maybe 20 times a year. When that happens and it's raining the water goes to my house is downhill of the drain

I asked KCC highways and they said it's not a fault and not them to clean the drains all the time.

Anyway feels like a lost debate getting them to maybe put another drain up hill from me

Any suggestions? My driveway left hand side has over the years had so much water flow tarmac gone. I can't fix it as more drain off will come.

I can't fix the road, as don't own it. Or could I just raise my driveway ?

Maybe dig a channel into my drive to force water/mud to go elsewhere?

See above, had these photos from a week ago, too dark to photo the road itself

If they are not going to fix it then I'd be digging a trench to capture that water and divert it closer to whence it came from.

Then denying I knew anything about it ;)

Ask a solictor how much it would cost for him to write a letter threatening to sue for damage caused to your property ( a few £K for a new drive) by their failure to carry out their responsibilities.

Ok just emailed ward councillor and my MP. Will give that a chance then the solicitor route seems an idea worth looking at.

Getting tired going out at night clearing drains, one day I am going to fall.

If your driveway was tipping vast quantities of water into the street and flooding it then I'm sure they'd be keen to tell you to do something about it.

I agree it's worth trying the political then legal routes. But this may just result in the council drain cleaner making a grudging one-off trip to clear it out, which may help in the short term or make it a little less likely. Whatever the outcome of this, a blooming great lump of something solid would be an absolute guarantee it doesn't continue to happen.

...but the success would depend on the lay of the land. If it would go around your dam onto your neighbour's land and/or back onto yours then it would be pointless.

Yes I think what would happen is a deep road blocking level of water would happen, as this is a low point of that road, and then I get the new problem of vehicles blocked. Ok all help great, let me come back and say what happens next.

I should said, this is the first drain on a 1.4mile section of B road, so gets lots of water to it. When I said to KCC highways how about a new drain at the field wks 100m further up, they were also not interested, which I think would of at the least moved the problem out of the village.
