hikvision dvr in loft..

Hello I have a hikvision cctv system dvr located in loft.
I can view footage in a downstairs rolm via hdmi cable but
can only alter settings via mouse in loft.

Is there an optical mouse which would reach a loft from the ground loft saving me from having to go to the loft if I want to change settings?

You could run a usb cable the same route as the hdmi cable to just behind the telly and plug a wireless mouse into that

It might need to be a powered usb given the distance

Do you really change the settings often enough to warrant doing this?

You could always move the DVR downstairs

Is it an IP CCTV system as you sould be able to access the NVR and all its settings via a web browser as long as it is on the same network.

What difference does it make if it’s an IP nvr or not a standard dvr connects the same

No it does not connect the same.

Both would have HDMI outputs which will allow you to see it on a TV as you are currently doing so.

And as you state you can control it by plugging a mouse in.

IP Systems connect to your router and you can then login to the NVR from a computer on your network. This then gives you access to all settings and you dont need to be sat next to the NVR.

I installed an NVR in a garage with the tv in the living room about 15 metres away with a HDMI cable run between the 2. A cheap wireless mouse from eBay allowed me to control it sitting in the living room watching the TV. If you google what wireless mouse works with Hikvision you will find recommendations and links.

I'l rephrase what I meant.
As long as the user has his DVR/NVR hooked up to a router, they can access it from any device on their network. This makes it a lot easier to access.
If not got it hooked up to your network youl have to go to the device itself.

I would move the unit if possible. The temperature and humidity seen in the loft is detrimental to the life of it.

Mine is in the loft, mounted approx 1 mtr off the floor in a metal box with twin fans ducted to outside, been up there for over 3 years without problem.

When I installed it I ran a HDMI cable along with 2 USB cables (one from the front and one from the rear of the DVR) to the room below that I use as an office and terminated them in a modular faceplate.

I can connect my monitor with a HDMI flylead, the mouse plugs into one USB socket and any uploads / downloads / firmware upgrades can be done with a USB stick in the other socket.
