I've got a 9m long wall topped with a hip roof, onto which we're proposing an extension.
First plan was a 9m long extension with the hip roof continued.
Second option was an extension with a flat roof, however the design came back with an 8m extension. The design has come back shorter as the existing hip rafter currently sits on the corner blockwork and the new flat roof joists can only start 40cm in from the corner as the rafter takes up the space.
Ideally I'd like the flat roof option to extend on the existing width of the property rather than having to have the walls step back 50cm.
The obvious solutions were to either build a supporting post on the corners to carry the new flat roof joists or to just build the extension with all 4 walls and no depend on any of the existing building for support.
The reason I'm questioning the design is that the other side of the bungalow has an older extension with a flat roof that wraps around the corner of the hip roof so someone has figured out how to support the joists for the flat roof.
Brick layers/builders in the central area of north wales feel free to PM (with some details of previous extensions) me if you want to quote for the job.
