Hive Dual Zone system

Hi all
I am new to this and please could someone assist, I am trying to install the HIVE dual zone system and have an issue with the heating.
Current set up is a Danfoss central heating system, with 3 zones. The boiler is a Potterton promax 15 located in the kitchen, with the main controller next to it.
Channel 1 - downstairs heating
Channel 2 - upstairs heating
Channel 3 - hot water

I removed the original Danfoss controller next to the boiler in the kitchen, (photo attached ) whereby we have the L,N and wiring for each zones 1,2 & 3. Note I already removed the N & L wired into the Hive
Next to this is the Hive dual receiver, this is how I wired it up.
N & L is obvious
I placed both the heating existing wires into terminal 4
Hot water in terminal 3
This is not right as the heating does not come on, despite the receiver symbol lighting up it appears nothing is signalling the boiler to kick in?
Hot water comes on, boiler kicks in and is fine.
Two original analogue thermostats removed and disconnected
All through the app on both Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

When you removed the thermostats, did you join the wires together or have they been removed completley or disconnected? Did they wire to the timer or directly to the boiler?

I removed the wires from the each thermostat and just secured them in block connectors. So they not connected to anything, the new thermostats are battery operated and have no wiring required. I didn't locate the other ends though. Interesting to note the original wiring for the heating only has heating on in the exisiting danfoss receiver
 
I suspect your heating is open circuit because the thermostat wires are not joined. Without knowing your wiring I suspect that each heating wire goes to their respective thermostats and then back to the boiler to tell it to turn on. One of the wires will have the voltage from the controller then when the temp is colder than the thermostat it will close the circuit and send the voltage to the boiler/zone valves to trigger.

If that is the case do i need to find the other end from each original thermostat, disconnect it and then link in a signal at the water tank upstairs signal box ?
 
It should be as simply as joing the 2 wires together where each of the original thermostats were. keep in mind they will likely have 230v from the controller/timer.

You said you placed them in connector blocks, so as above, safely isolate and place both switch wires in the same block
 
I will need to add a photo of the wiring, and connector. If you could advise that would be great
Also another bit that confused me... so i have the heating wiring only has two wires in the original danfoss receiver, when placing these wires into the Hive system I have added them into pin 4,(2nd photo) surely this defeats the object of having two different zones as this is controlled by upstairs & downstairs thermostats

Right so the Hive receiver needs a permanent live and permanent neutral to operate and the other 2 wires act as a switch. The Danfoss isn't a receiver but a battery operated thermostat, having only 2 wires as a switch. Does this make more sense?

If you wish to maintain a dual zone + HW system, you will need another single channel Hive, to control the second heating zone.
 
If you have individual radiator controls or plan on getting that then there probably is no need for the 2 seperate zones, they can just remain combined. I would assume that the hive radiator valves work along with the hive controller so when any radiator needs heat it will send the signal to the hive controller for the boiler to fire up, this way every room is its own zone.
 
Hi all, thanks for the help. I managed to sort this by linking the wiring in the thermostats, used a block connector and then i had to add the separate receiver too. This too needed a link wired adding across, so bridging the permanent live & pin 3 for heating. All good now. Just for info I do not have hive radiator valves
