If you want a straightforward solution (and assuming the backplate is in a convenient position for a thermostat), there are simple or programmable stats that will fit directly onto the Hives 'universal' backplate.
If you post a photo of the wiring behind the Hive receiver, we may be able to suggest some alternatives.

The receiver is the box next to the boiler. Knowing it is mounted next to the boiler suggests the backplate is not in a convenient (or suitable) position to mount a thermostat.
Did you have an existing thermostat before the Hive was installed, and is the wiring still in place for it?
Or have you tried moving the hub away from the router on a longer cable, to a better position for the thermostat and receiver to maintain a signal?
Otherwise, as @martygturner suggests, a Hive signal booster may be worth a try for under £30?
