Hello, after a recent Hive success on DIYNOT, I decided to attempt my relatives hive installation. They have an existing EPH Controls R27-HW 1 zone timer and thermostats on an S plan system.

The old timer has wires for L, N Heating on, Hot Water on

Thus it is not a simple change as the old thermostats are hard wired in and there is only one wire for heating at the timer rather than one for each zone. To make matters worse, the installer appears to have made up their own wiring layout but luckily they left a cardboard diagram that I'm struggling to make sense of. They have also labelled the grey electrical 'twin and earh'-style cable so I can see where each cable goes to.

Any help is appreciated, please find attached images of the wiring centre, cardboard diagram and the wiring diagram for the old/existing timer

I have seen two Hive thermostats used for two zone, and I can see with a home like mine why one would want to turn off a whole area of the house, in my case the flat, so 4 rooms have their own pump motorised valve and relay, the problem is there is only one micro switch in the motorised valve I needed a relay to have one set of contacts for pump and one for boiler.

But with a single pump it is a lot easier, Wiser does a three channel version but not Hive, but with TRV heads that connect to the hub it is not really required to have a wall thermostat, but job one is to design the system, it is no good throwing it together.

As above, it appears as if the wiring centre you've shown, has connections to the two thermostats and two heating zone valves.
We may be missing some wiring connections, if there is separate hot water control.

Could we have a peep at the wiring behind the EPH Controls R27-HW?
Is the EPH controller anywhere near the wiring centre?
