I have gone through every thread over the last few days and can’t find a definitive answer to my question so I do apologise for the millionth post.

Is hive wired into the wiring on my boiler, or at the box of wiring by the zone valves?

I only have a single hive, and only want to control the zone that controls the downstairs heating using the hive as we only use the upstairs once or twice a year so it’s not necessary. I know that there’s better out there that compliments the opentherm on the boiler but this is just for now and I’ll upgrade at the end of the year.

I really do appreciate any help!

You can wire the receiver directly to the wiring centre, or in place of one of the existing thermostats.

To wire at the wiring centre...

With a 3 core and earth cable:
Connect L of the Hive receiver backplate, to terminal 6 (with the grey and brown wires)
Connect N to terminal 5
Connect the earth terminal to terminal 7
Add a short link wire between L and terminal 1 on the Hive receiver
And join terminal 3 on the receiver to the brown wire in terminal 1, or 2 of the wiring centre - whichever connects to the correct zone valve.

If going straight into the thermostat, which wire goes where on the hive? there’s brown, grey, one without a cover which I’d presume to be blue but I may be wrong and black

If connecting at the stat...

Brown to L on the Hive receiver backplate.
Grey to N.
Earth to earth.
Black to terminal 3.
Add a short link wire between terminals L and 1 on the Hive.

Additionally, the appropriate grey wire will have to be connected to Neutral at the wiring centre (terminal 5).
At the wiring centre, follow the black wire, connected to the correct zone valve, back to the triple and earth cable - untangle the grey wire from the same cable, and this is the one to connect to N.

Thankyou so much for your help! I’m going to wire straight into the wiring center. Am I adding these wires to the terminals with the old wire still in there or removing them? I really appreciate this!!

Probably best removing them temporarily whilst you test the Hive to ensure correct operation, then just place in connector blocks once you know it works. Make sure you check the boiler for safety afterwards as it forms part of the combustion circuit and Ideal burner seals are porous.

You may need to be clearer about which old wires you want to remove! :)

Personally, I would keep all the wires currently connected to the wiring centre in place - add the new wires to join the existing.
Simply remove the batteries from the T3, to temporarily disable it.
At least then, you still have the possibility to easily go back to a working system, should the Hive install not go to plan.
If you do wish to remove and decommission the T3, all the wires from the thermostats triple and earth cable can be removed at the wiring centre.

We got there. Thankyou so so SO much!!!! Wouldn’t have been able to do it without your help!
