Hob isolation switch?

There is to a gas hob, but provision will be made with a cable from the CU to the hob position, in case an electric hob is ever wanted in the future. The cable will not be connected and dead.

The consumer unit is just in the hall off the kitchen at face height. an MCB or RCBO will be fitted to accommodate any future hob.

The Q is, does there need to be an isolation switch in the kitchen when one is next to the kitchen in an easy to access CU? It seem pointless fitting one in the kichen and they look ugly as well.

No. It is not a requirement.

It is desirable to have an isolator though IMO, but if you really didn't want one on show there is a trend to fit one inside a kitchen cupboard.

In a cupboard is difficult as it would be hidden and difficult to see behind the corn flakes. The CU is at face height and easy to get to and just outside the kitchen. So best just have the switch at the CU.

I wouldn't have thought so, but the regs seem to imply that they are adequate for providing isolation in a TN installations.

You need a clearly displayed and easily located DP isolating switch. If unfortunately you have fire on your hob, switching off the CU and the house lighting will hardly make things safer.

Just bung the isolator in a cupboard like the rest of the country does now. It's there if needed.
