Anyone know what these holes (covered with screen) are for? This garage wall shares the back of a living room coat closet wall. I’ve lived here 14 yrs and it had been done previously. Thanks!

Is that an old fireplace underneath?
Perhaps someone fixed a lintel overhead.

Thanks for all the interest! The holes do not go thru the closet. Yes the screen is def there to keep insects out and many have died there but what are the holes for? There’s another uniform hole next to the edge of the headboard with a circular piece of styrofoam in it. The fire place is next to that area - where the brick wall is

Might they have been air holes, to allow air into the room, to supply air directly to the fire? Air in close to the fire, avoids the usual cold draft on your back.
