When making holes for ventilation, I cant seem to find any guidance on the maximum size opening you can safely make.

Im happy with drilling 4/6 inch cores.

But I need to install some 9 inch and possibly 12 inch fans, and this to me, is starting to create quite a large hole in the wall.

Im naturally a bit cautious, and worry about structural damage.
But also I dont want to be over the top and get structural enginners in (If not needed)

Woud appreciate any guidance and if anybody knows of any sites/books which deal with buildings and structural integrity for electrical installation, that would be most helpful.
(I have the guides to building regs)

Thanks very much
