hi helpers, we are taking grandaughter on holiday on Tuesday to Turkey

wife has been on a forum and found out ( hopefully not true ) that we need a signed letter from our daughter giving us ( the grandparents ) permission to take her.

if so, that will be difficult as daughter is in Tunisia ! all 3 passports are in the same name so i cant see any problems, your views please P M

Dunno much about international laws concerning grandkids though. Perhaps check with the Turkish Consulate in London?

Hopefully you can take her.
We took two grandkids on holiday to Majorca a few years ago, and I can definitely say, it was one of the best holidays ever. We took them to places, we'd never have gone on our own (and definitely spent a lot more money than we'd have spent on our own).
Both children had never been on an aircraft before, but once it had taken off they were great. On the way back, one even slept through the takeoff. ;) ;)

quite agree John D, got to be some sort of control, I think we should be ok even if we get an e mail from daughter and we have her mobile no if needed

J J should have a good time. im not going to pack any books or i pod

We tried to get a passport for one granddaughter some years back and filled the forms in. Paid at the post office for them to check the forms etc. and they took our money.
A few weeks later we received a letter from passport office asking for her mothers birth certificate. Got one and sent it off. Another couple of weeks went by then a letter arrived asking for our grandchild's mother's mother birth certificate. Which sadly we were unable to get (she had died many years ago and we didn't know her maiden name or even where she was born) Repeated calls to the passport office met with no joy whatsoever. The excuse was that we could be abducting the grandchild. Even though I worked for the local council, had a mortgage and other commitments. We even supplied proof of the holiday we had booked 7 months before to no avail.
We asked if the grandchild could apply for a passport herself (6 at the time) only to be told , her mother could apply, but they'd still want a copy of the mother's birth certificate and her maternal grandmother's birth certificate (a real stumbling block)
After going down every avenue, we asked for the application to be returned and our money refunded. Ahh the application forms and birth certificates we'd sent off were returned, but were told that as the processing had started, no money could be refunded (robbing barstewards)
So not only did they cost us our grandkid's holiday, they also charged us £££'s for the experience. It's all wrong. I know they have the interests of the grandchild at heart, but so did we.

Talk to your daughter and get her permission to 'forge' the signature. Or just forge it.

Problem with the travel operator is,, They are just after your money. They may well tell you it's ok to travel. Once the day arrives and you can't travel , they won't offer any refund at all.
There was a case in the press this week about a family travelling to the US. On of them had a passport that wasn't machine readable and was refused travel. The travel company pointed out (in the tiny tiny small print) that it was up to individuals to check their passports etc.

Thanks for the replies guys, looks like we need to write a letter on behalf of daughter that sounds better then " forge " otherwise I will go on my own :D :D

yeh your right Joe, daughter who works a 12 hour day (incl commuting 100 miles to London)
who gets not a penny from the father of her child who is loved by all
she goes on holiday with our blessing

I came on this great site for advice, not for a hurtful comment like that
