Have a burst water mains pipe which is most likely lead.

Insurance has offered to 'find and fix' 'engineer will attend your Property and locate the leak on your boundary. The engineer will then proceed to excavate and expose the leak, replacing the leaking section of pipe with brand new blue MDPE pipework.'

Alternatively they have offered 'cash settlement up to the maximum settlement value of £1138.19 minus your policy excess - therefore you can receive up to £1038.19 towards the cost of you having your supply replaced by a registered company contractor. If your contractor's invoiced costs are less than the limit of liability, then your insurance company will only cover those lower costs minus your policy excess.'

So far we have opted for find and fix because we are a bit cash strapped and I'm guessing a full supply replacement is gona cost a hell of a lot more than 1000 and I don't fancy digging trenches through my house however I have been reading that replacing a section of pipe is most likely a temporary repair and we will just spring another leak down the line.

Would I be best just finding the money from somewhere and taking the hit on a full replacement?

I think a house in our road paid around £2000 for mole machine to run new poly pipe to house. I thought that was expensive.
They paid £700 for a repair prior but after tests they discovered other leaks. Neighbours have got worried and taken insurance out as we all could be next

This is the worry, I'm thinking maybe best to just replace especially considering insurance is willing to pay such a big chunk

Stones in soil rubbed against pipe over 60+ years caused leak.

You can dig yourself then pay for connection
