Honda lawn mower

Hi
I have a Honda Petrol lawn mower with roller at the back,
When the mower ticks over it makes a really loud clattering noise
When i engage the drive for the blades the noise dissapears
The machine still drives and cuts OK
Its just this terribly loud sort of grating noise on tick over.
Any ideas,

Very hard to say without seeing it or even knowing what the blades clutch arranment looks like. I would take it to a mower service bloke to look over.

Incase anyone on here knows the honda range better, doy uo know the model and rough age?

Its a HRD 21" cut
It is quite an old one.......................

Does this machine have the blade engage button on the handlebar?
If it does, look at the cable adjustment....it sounds like the blade clutch is half engaged all of the time.
