Hi , I Find my Honywell diveter valve v 4073 are only lasting 3-4 years each time the head locks up.
I only fit the compleat valve and have it down to a fine art fitting fitting it ( I am a mecanical fitter ), but I find the price of the honeywell valve a silly price.
So I asking you guys are the generic valves worth considering , they are a third cheaper and if they last a 3 years I'm in pocket.
Look forward to your comments,

Not sure why you would fit a complete valve, when it's cheaper to just change the head, and no need to drain the system.
Have you considered changing to a V4044 (non-midposition) head and convert to W-plan? I don't know whether 3 years is typical life of a V4073, but my V4044 is getting on for 20 years and still OK. V4044 is simpler, cheaper and likely more reliable. I doubt if you'd know the difference in system performance. And if you go for weather compensation at some point it must have an either/or valve.

Honeywell have nosedived in quality in recent years. Agree with @fixitflav, just change the powerhead. Have you considered changing to an S plan (x2 motorised valves)?

Hi Thanks for your reply. I would keep it as a Y plan as I Can change the whole unit in about 20 mins.
I just don't like waisting money on parts that are not up to the job.

Hi, The valve is in the loft , I only know when it as failed by feeling the hot water flow pipe .

Next time change the motor instead of the valve or the head if no heating when CH only is selected

Do you think the generic branded heads will serve as well as Honeywell,
If so, is there a good brand to go for ?

Syncron motor will be WAY cheaper.
I assume you checked the motor was getting 250 volts and not turning

It is NOT a cheap fix, it is a CORRECT procedure. Knock yourself out, change the whole valve.
I having been repairing motorised valves LONG before I started posting here. If my free and correct easy fix is too cheap, no fear, carry on regardless.

I have all ways used Honeywell valves , but in the last 5 years I have replaced the valve twice,
The price of these honeywell valves are now a silly price and not worth it.
So if I buy a cheap brand and it only last 2-3 years I am quids in.

Voice of experience means zilch.

Do what you want. Not my problem nor will I lose sleep over it
