Hi I'm looking at replacing my honeywell t40 with a hive - i thought it would be a simple switch, and maybe it still is but there are more wires than I expected.

Not the like for like swap i thought or do I just need help mapping the wires?

Thanks in advance, new here but looks like a good place to ask

Yes, this! :)

With power safely isolated...
Move the Black wire in terminal 2 of the T40 to N on the Hive receiver backplate.
Brown wire in terminal 1 to L.
Grey wire in terminal 3 to terminal 3 of Hive.
Add a short link wire between L and terminal 1 of the Hive.
Connect the Green/Yellow wire to the Hives earth terminal.

Simple!

One last question for the short link -

Brown wire i guess - any particular spec needed?

Not particularly, just as long as it is the same size (cross sectional area) as the original.
If you're lucky, you may find there is enough spare on the original wire, to pinch a little off; if you can pull it out from the wall a bit.
