So I bought a new Honeywell motor for my Honeywell 3 way diverter valve as the current one was making that buzzing sound and seemed to stick - switching power off would let it reset but this got quite annoying after about 2 years.
Anyway I have put the new motor on and now the rads get worm when the hot water is calling - after comparing the old with the new it seems as though the positions of the valve turning mechanism are in slightly different positions - so when you take valve out of manual, the spring only moves a few millimetres before stopping - I guess that's as far as the valve can turn and there's still some more for the springs to pull round. Basically the little lever springs back to just a little more than where the manual setting is. So I kind of think that the manual setting is only really about midway.

Is this normal that motors may not line up? I bought a replacement with the full matching serial numbers.

Thanks

Did you buy a new head or just the motor?.
When you pull on the manual lever you should feel resistance immediately, you should be able to pull it over and latch it in, it should now be in mid position to facilitate system draining and refilling whenever this should be required.
Select both HW & CH off, with both roomstat and cylinder stat turned right down then while watching/listening to the valve, get someone to select HW only on and (to) turn the cylinder stat full up, the valve should not move.
