Hi all
My fuse board has a switch which isolates the left hand side switches in our kitchen. Its two x 2 point plugs. The furthest looks like a ring with a spur off it to me. The spur heads down the wall and behind the current gas cooker. Its rolled up and taped off.

My question is, can I use this to fit some sort of FCU to the wall which runs the new gas cooker ignition and the hood??

image attached if it helps

Well ideally, there should be a switch to control the new socket, as its going to be inaccessible, and you'll want somewhere to turn it all off in case anything catches fire, or if you need to remove anything etc.

You could install a 20A double pole switch just below the pictured socket, in line to the new socket.

Also your new addition needs to be RCD protected, or an RCD added at the source of the circuit (if there isnt one there already)

However, bear in mind, this work is notifiable under Part P of the building regs.
You have 3 options:
1. Notify building control, pay their fee (£100-200) and do the work yourself legally.
2. Pay an electrician who can self-certify and notifys building control himself for much less than you can. His charge to you may well be much less than it would cost you to notify BC yourself.
3. Do the work yourself, but be breaking the law by not notifying. You may be invalidating your home insurance if you go down this route. Your mortgage lender wont be happy. . . .
